The University of Michigan Transportation Institute provides solutions and expanded knowledge related to drivers, vehicles, new mobility and the systems that unite them with the social, physical, and technical infrastructure.

UMTRI experts partner with academia, government,  industry, and other stakeholders to address the most pressing transportation issues of today.

Sponsored Studies

UMTRI provides basic and applied research contractually. These contracts may result from sole-source discussions or competitive bids. You will find that initiating contracts (or other partnerships) with UMTRI is a straightforward and uncomplicated process.

  1. Identify the area of expertise that is of interest to you.
  2. Identify a researcher or administrator in that area, with whom you can begin a dialogue through phone or email.

Full details of the process of initiating and carrying out a contract with UMTRI can be found at Michigan Engineering’s Office of the Associate Dean for Research (ADR).

Testing and Analysis

UMTRI researchers can perform small-scale testing or analysis projects, for which a purchase order, as opposed to a research contract, provides the terms of payment.
